Answers to our most common questions about renting with Aucomm.
Please bring the following items with you when you pick up your rental vehicle:
- Your printed rental voucher.
- A valid driver’s license that you have held for the required period of time. (The required period may vary by rental supplier. If the supplier does not state a specific period, the default requirement is one year.) If your driver’s license is in a different language than the language of the country where you are renting, you must also provide a translated copy that meets local requirements.
- The main driver’s credit card, with enough available credit. At pick-up, a pre-authorization hold will be placed on the card as a deposit.
- A valid photo ID (your passport or another internationally accepted ID).
No. A credit card is required for all car rentals: it is used for online payment and to cover the deposit at pick-up.
Yes. A deposit is collected at pick-up as protection against damage and loss. The deposit is payable when you arrive at our branch. The amount depends on the vehicle model you choose, and it will be frozen (pre-authorized) on the main driver’s credit card for the duration of the rental. Once the rental is complete, the deposit is usually released back to the same credit card within 14–28 working days.
Once your reservation is complete, we collect a reservation deposit, which is applied to your rental fee when you pick up the vehicle.
- If you cancel more than 48 hours before pick-up, the reservation deposit is converted into store credit, which you can use at any time.
- A $100 penalty applies if you cancel 24–48 hours before pick-up.
- If you cancel within 24 hours of pick-up, or after the scheduled pick-up time, you will be charged the full rental fee (prepayments are non-refundable).
Late pick-ups and early returns are not eligible for a refund of the remaining rental fee.
Rent is calculated on a 24-hour basis: each 24-hour period counts as one rental day, and any rental period shorter than 24 hours is still charged as one full day.
As is standard practice internationally, when you reserve a rental car you book a vehicle category (a “model group”), not a specific make and model.
What to do if the vehicle breaks down or you are involved in an accident:
- If the vehicle is scratched or damaged in a collision that does not involve a third party, call the rental company’s emergency number to report the condition of the vehicle, and ask whether any fee applies and whether you need a replacement vehicle or should call the police. If roadside assistance or a replacement vehicle is needed, please wait for our staff to arrive.
- If the accident involves a third party — whether or not you are at fault — call the police immediately, notify the rental company, and collect the third party’s contact details (phone number, license plate number, and name). Take photos of the accident scene, wait for the police to handle the situation, and obtain the police-signed accident report along with the third party’s details. When you return the vehicle, present the police report and complete the rental company’s accident or damage report form.
- Keep copies of all rental documents in case an insurance claim is required. If you do not follow this procedure, your insurance coverage may be affected, which could compromise your right to compensation.
- If the vehicle is stolen during your rental, call the police as soon as possible and also notify the rental company’s emergency line.
If the breakdown was not caused by improper use, there is generally no additional charge. However, if the fault was caused by your negligence — for example, using the wrong fuel or driving illegally — you are responsible for the related costs, which are charged according to the rental store’s standard rates.
When you pick up the vehicle, the store provides a vehicle pickup receipt or rental contract that usually includes an emergency roadside assistance number — call it directly for help. If the documents do not list a roadside assistance number, call the store’s phone number shown on the pickup sheet and follow their instructions. The cost of roadside assistance depends on the rescue service provider.
When you pick up the vehicle, inspect it for damage. If you find any, take photos, record the damage, and point it out to our staff immediately so it can be noted. When you return the vehicle, if our staff identify any damage, you may take photos and keep your own record. The official damage appraisal report is provided by the store.
Stores usually offer additional equipment such as child seats (baby seats and booster cushions), snow tires, GPS units, and spare tires. Additional equipment is paid for at the local store. If you would like to rent extras such as GPS or child seats, please indicate this in advance when completing your order.
Charges that appear some time after you return the vehicle are generally for traffic violation fines incurred during the rental period, or for toll and bridge charges. If you have not received a ticket notification email after a long time, you can contact us directly for the ticket information, and we will respond as soon as possible.
